FCV conditions exacerbate already dire vulnerabilities and can lead to extreme, multi-hazard crises. Negative impacts of FCV situations tend to hit the most vulnerable hardest.
The WBG has gradually entered several areas traditionally considered to be the purview of humanitarian actors. In each case, the WBG focuses on contributing a development approach that is complementary to humanitarian relief. The WBG is scaling up its efforts to address famine risk with a broad crisis management approach. The WBG is also reinforcing its capacity to address pandemic risks and health crises in FCV settings by strengthening its capacity to identify risks and intervene rapidly, especially during and after episodes of violence.
Fragility and conflict do not tend to stop at borders. Under this pillar, FF20 will delve into comprehensive refugee responses including resilience and economic integration, integrated multilateral responses across development partners, risk assessments and operations, and peace-building in countries spanning across Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
