Greenhouse Gas Emissions Factsheet: Uzbekistan

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Factsheet: Uzbekistan
"Learn more about Uzbekistan's commitment toward reducing its greenhouse gas emissions". This factsheet provides information on 2014 greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Uzbekistan. Included is an overview of emissions by sector, changes in emissions, information on carbon intensity, as well as climate change mitigation targets and plans. Uzbekistan’s total GHG emissions in 2014 were 214.70 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e), totaling 0.44 percent of global GHG emissions. The energy sector serves as the predominant source of GHG emissions in Uzbekistan, with 89.4 percent of emissions from energy emissions, 13.1 percent from agriculture, 2.7 percent from industrial processes, and 2.4 percent from waste. Uzbekistan’s land-use change and forestry (LUCF) sector was a net carbon sink, absorbing 16.40 MtCO2e more than was emitted from that sector in 2014. Per its INDC, Uzbekistan established a carbon intensity target, pledging to decrease emissions of GHGs per unit of GDP by 10% by 2030 from the 2010 levels. Achieving this target ensures development of the economy along with curbing GHG emissions growth. The planning process for strengthening measures and actions to achieve this target include: political measures; implementation of measures aimed at improvement of energy efficiency; development of scientific research, education and training; and development of system for inventory, reporting and control over GHG emissions. This Knowledge Note is a Fact Sheet produced and published by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This User Guide explains some of the terminology within this GHG Fact Sheet. USAID has also produced a variety of other resources and online trainings to support climate risk management (CRM), which may be accessed here.
