'Africa-Korea' DAT Knowledge Exchange Series: Disruptive Solutions for Agricultural Risks Management

'Africa-Korea' DAT Knowledge Exchange Series: Disruptive Solutions for Agricultural Risks Management
"Learn from innovative solution providers from the US, Kenya, and Korea on using data and analytics to respond to agricultural risks." Agricultural risk is the principal cause of food insecurity and disruption to agricultural supply chains, which creates a poverty trap especially for the poor. Agriculture risks, including Production Risks, Market Risks, and Enabling Environmental Risks have notably exacerbated since 2020 due to the global pandemic. Catastrophic events cause especially significant damages to farmers as these threats are beyond their capacity to control. In 2020, Eastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Pakistan, and India experienced a significant locust upsurge and Kenya experienced the worst locust outbreak in the past 70 years. The sudden outbreak of the pandemic also negatively impacted the livestock value chain, closing the doors for farmers to livestock markets and borders. It also brought an abundance of caution for humans infected with COVID-19 and their interactions with animals.   Understanding adverse impacts and the urgency of these agricultural risks, this World Bank Food and Agriculture GP webinar introduces innovative agricultural risk management solutions for ongoing risks of the virus, disease, and pest outbreaks. Hear from innovative solution providers from the US, Kenya, and Korea on using data and analytics to respond to agricultural risks preventively, reactively, and proactively. This webinar is a part of series of knowledge exchange sessions between Africa and South Korea and is sponsored by the Korea-World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF).
