PPIAF is providing technical assistance to several developing country governments who are looking to leverage synergies across network infrastructure to increase broadband Internet connectivity in their countries. Leveraging these synergies, which is known as infrastructure sharing, can help increase access to broadband services in a faster and more eff ective way, because it requires less capital investment and time than traditional telecom projects. However, in order to successfully implement infrastructure sharing, governments need to have a supportive enabling environment and the proper institutional capacity to facilitate information sharing between utilities and telecom operators. PPIAF’s technical assistance and knowledge products support governments and public utilities as they design and implement the policy and regulatory changes necessary to launch telecom infrastructure sharing projects.
