At its launch early 2015, this systematic review was the most comprehensive analysis on the topic of "Social Safety Nets (SSN) and Gender". It was based on 145 impact evaluations (IEs) and 112 World Bank-supported investment projects. Evidence suggests that Social Safety Net (SSN) interventions contribute to the economic empowerment of women. Several impact evaluations analyzed for the Social Safety Nets and Gender Report indicate that paying cash transfers directly to women can contribute to women’s empowerment.
