"Learn how satellite Earth Observation can be used in urban planning and for improved design and implementation of master plans"
Tanzania has a rapidly growing urban population – 5.4 million people were added to urban areas with an average growth rate of 5.2% between 2002 and 2012. Master plans are urgently needed to plan e.g. for proper housing and infrastructure to accommodate these people.
Land use and land cover products derived from satellite Earth Observation (EO) can be used as the basis for improved design and implementation of master plans, but also for comparison of the plan with the real developments later on. In this webinar, the use of EO is illustrated through a case study in Arusha, where a master plan done in 1984 is compared to the real situation in 2015.
Webinar delivered by EO4SD-URBAN project consortium for European Space Agency (ESA) and World Bank Group (WBG). The material is extracted from training material provided by the EO4SD-URBAN project which is funded by the European Space Agency and implemented by GAF AG and Consortium.
