This episode explores how most of the environmental and social impacts of climate change will affect human health, either directly or indirectly. The adverse health impacts of climate change will impinge unevenly around the world, particularly affecting poor and vulnerable populations, while extreme events have affected health in both developing and developed regions. You will also learn how climate change affects the rate of spread and multiplication of pathogens and how changes in temperature, precipitation and humidity influence vector-borne diseases; for example, climate affects the distribution of regions where favorable conditions occur for the outburst of malaria. A key message of this episode is that as temperatures continue to rise, most of these threats to the health of whole communities and populations will escalate.
