In the Philippines, $1 (or 45 pesos) can buy a simple meal. For every dollar spent on food, the poor sacrifice other basic needs such as medicine and fare for going to school and to work.
Many people is able to live on $1 per day, because their daily living is supported by free meals (with some efforts) provided by the nature, food resources planted around the house, and many similar things.
