Access to appropriate finance remains the single biggest challenge for women in setting up businesses in Pakistan. The World Bank’s Finance and Private Sector team in South Asia set out to understand this issue—to determine whether women entrepreneurs have access to, and are using, microfinance loans as a source of finance for their businesses. However, the resulting report—Are Pakistan’s Women Entrepreneurs Being Served by the Microfinance Sector?— goes beyond that narrow objective.
