MFD in the agriculture and food sector – 1. introduction

WHO IS THIS WEBINAR FOR?

TTLs and team members who design and implement agriculture projects.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN?

This webinar will provide the overview of the WBG strategy to operationalize the Maximizing Finance for Development (MFD) approach in the agriculture and food sector. It will explain the value chain approach, the MFD cascade, and the MFD Guidance Note (“Operationalizing MFD in the Agriculture and Food Sector Guidance Note”).

The MFD approach is supporting client countries maximize their development resources by drawing on private financing and sustainable private sector solutions to provide value for money and meet the highest environmental, social, and fiscal responsibility standards, and reserve scarce public financing for those areas where private sector engagement is not optimal or available. Increasing private sector investment and associated financing in the agriculture and food value chain will require identifying and understanding market failures currently leading to the sub-optimal private provision of goods and services needed to achieve key development goals.

Agriculture GP is focusing on operationalizing the MFD agenda in the agriculture and food sector, together with agribusiness colleagues in FCI GP, IFC and MIGA. To support capacity building of WBG staff to implement the MFD approach in their operations, “Maximizing Finance for Development (MFD) in the Agriculture and Food Sector Webinar Series” aims to provide practical information in applying the MFD approach to projects in the sector. The series will explain our strategy and showcase available tools and early MFD cases.

As the first webinar under the series, this webinar provides the overview of the WBG strategy to operationalize the MFD approach in the agriculture and food sector. It will explain the value chain approach, the MFD cascade, and the Operationalizing MFD in the Agriculture and Food Sector Guidance Note.
