Knowledge Note

Microfinance has emerged as a strategic tool for poverty reduction and rural development. The Self Help Group (SHG) Movement which began in the mid 1980’s, has gained tremendous momentum. Empowerment of women is another distinct impact and the findings envisage that organising the women through SHGs and their networks paves an excellent platform to improve leadership skills and self confidence of women from poor communities.
