In November 2011, the Ibasho Cafe Project was initiated as a place for Ofunato elders to demonstrate their leadership and contribute to the recovery of their community from the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and to its future resilience. After hearing the devastating impact of Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, the elders from Ofunato travelled to Ormoc to share their experiences of recovery and conducted workshops.
