This session will provide a review of the key concepts and tools for incubators’ M&E strategies and highlight how M&E can be used to support incubator objectives and to improve decision-making and operations. Business enablers will be introduced to the main steps of developing an M&E system and to how to customize their M&E plan to the needs of Cleantech accelerators and their clients.

World Bank’s InfoDev Climate, within the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice (FCI GP), empowers developing countries to proactively and profitably adapt, develop, and deploy climate smart technologies and business models that meet local needs and drive growth, competitiveness, and employment. InfoDev Climate has established a network of seven Climate Innovation Centers (CICs) - in Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Ghana, Vietnam, Morocco, and the Caribbean - to support early stage climate technology companies with a holistic set of services including proof-of-concept grants, business advisory and training, and access to business/technical facilities. Sarah Craig is a Monitoring and Evaluation consultant with the Innovation & Entrepreneurship unit in the World Bank Group, part of the Trade & Competitiveness Global Practice. Prior to joining the Bank, she worked at Innovations for Poverty Action, where she managed a portfolio of impact evaluations of SME and entrepreneurship development programs. She has also worked for IFC in Istanbul, supporting access to finance projects, and held research positions with the Enterprise Initiative at the University of Chicago and with IPA Peru. Sarah received her Master’s in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Carleton College.
Yehia Eldozdar is a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist for the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Unit of the World Bank Group’s Trade & Competitiveness Global Practice. Previously, Yehia was part of the IFC’s Investment Climate team, where he worked on a number of business regulatory reform projects across the MENA region. In addition, he has worked as an SME Policy Development Specialist for the Office of the Ministries of Economy, Foreign Trade & Finance in Egypt. Yehia holds an MSc in Economic Development & International Trade from the University of Reading in the UK and a BA in Economics from the American University in Cairo.
Daniel Ababio is the workstream lead for access to finance and M&E for the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC).Daniel also works as a manager within the Advisory Services of Ernst and Young, advising both public and private sector clients on performance management, monitoring and evaluation, financial management and finance process improvement. He holds an MPhil degree in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Accounting both from the University of Ghana. He is also a Chartered Accountant with a professional certification from the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA, UK). Prior to joining Ernst and Young, Mr. Ababio worked as a research and teaching assistant in the Department of Economics, University of Ghana.
John Kitcher supports the Monitoring and Evaluation workstream of the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC). He is a Consultant with Ernst and Young Advisory Services, and works specifically in the Performance Improvement sub-service line. Prior to joining Ernst and Young, he worked with an Oil Trading Company as a Business Development Personnel. Mr. Kitcher holds a Master’s degree in International Business Energy and Petroleum from the University of Aberdeen and is currently pursuing a professional certification with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Mr. Kitcher has been involved in a number of Government and Private sector projects which focused on Monitoring and Evaluation, and Public Financial Management.
