Geo-Enabling Monitoring and Supervision (GEMS) initiative has been used in a variety of contexts and project stages beyond M&E. In Azerbaijan it served as a communications and citizen engagement tool that is open for everyone to access through an interactive project map.
The Azerbaijan Rural Investment Project (AzRIP) has supported access to infrastructure in rural areas since 2005. From 2014 it has also piloted access to livelihood opportunities. These investments are based on priorities set by communities through participatory methods. AzRIP has till date invested in 2,000 community projects working with 1,470 different villages in 56 rayons. A total of 3.5 million beneficiaries have benefitted so far from the project.
