12. IFC-GBAC Webinar Series - 2030: How Today's Biggest Trends Will Collide and Reshape the Future of Everything

"After the pandemic, we shall find ourselves in a rather different world. We shall apply lessons learned during the COVID -19 crisis to rebuild a more dynamic and resilient society."

Professor Mauro F. Guillén of the Wharton School shows demographic, economic, and climate trends and ventures to predict how the world will look in a decade. He advises that the only way to truly understand the global transformations underway—along with their impacts—is to think laterally. In other words, he suggests taking the perspective of “peripheral vision” and approaching problems creatively, from unorthodox points of view. Professor Guillén gave the audience a deep dive into the changes that lie ahead of us. He helps us envision and come to terms with the many inevitable consequences of climate change. The ongoing COVID-19 crisis will most likely intensify and accelerate—rather than derail—the trends analyzed at the webinar.
