Sharan Sharma, Ph.D.
I am an Assistant Research Professor with appointments in the departments of Sociology and the Joint Program in Survey Methodology, and co-investigator with the India Human Development Survey, a large-scale pan-India survey. My academic background includes a Ph.D. in Survey Methodology and a Masters in Applied Statistics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Masters in Management Studies and Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Mumbai. My research interests include interviewer effects, interviewer-respondent interaction, survey methodology in cross-cultural contexts, survey falsification, paradata, quality control, and modeling complex survey data. I also have interests in the management aspects of surveys. Specifically, in organization building, the planning and implementation of large-scale complex surveys, capacity and capability building in developing countries, and process management. My varied interests have been influenced by my experience for close to 2 decades in the private sector, most recently as Senior Vice President for TAM India (a Kantar-Nielsen joint venture) where I held cross-functional responsibilities spanning research, business development, and corporate affairs.
